Video Production

This class is designed to introduce 7th and 8th grade middle school students to the fundamentals of multimedia and video production. Students are engaged in hands-on experiences, use communications skills, and develop strategies to learn the basics of video pre-production, production, and post-production.

Students produce video products in the form of weekly news broadcasts to the school and other video pieces such as public service announcements, commercials, interviews with community members, and documentaries. They learn to operate audio and video equipment and perform exercises to develop technical production skills. Students use editing software such as iMovie and Final Cut on iMac computers to import video footage, edit, create titles and special effects, and export their final video to dvd.

As they use technology students also develop skills in planning, organization, script writing, interpersonal communication, team building, and media literacy.  Students participate in every aspect of video production from editing to directing to on-screen talent.
