8th Grade Core

Welcome to our 8th-grade Core! This year, we will embark on a literary journey through a variety of engaging books - reading individually, in small book club groups, and as a whole class. Daily reading, both in and out of the classroom, is encouraged to foster a love for literature and enhance reading skills. Our writing curriculum covers a range of genres, including argument, narrative, and informational writing, allowing students to develop their voice and proficiency in different styles.

In U.S. History, we will explore the fascinating timeline from the colonization of America to the Civil War. Key events and historical figures will be studied in-depth, with an emphasis on drawing connections to contemporary society. Our goal is to help students understand the past and its relevance to the present. Students will master Cornell note-taking, collaborate on group projects, and present their work to the class regularly, honing their research and presentation skills.

Building a strong classroom community is a cornerstone of our class. We have fun and memorable events like Outsiders Day and engage students in 8th-grade rites of passage such as the Constitution Test, 6-word memoirs, the end-of-year trip, and the 8th-grade promotion ceremony. These activities are designed to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment where students can grow academically and personally. Join us for an exciting year of discovery, learning, and celebration!
